Hidalis’ Baby Shower

This cake was made to welcome a beautiful baby boy, Cristian Ramirez. Hidalis was pleased to see this cake at her shower and the first thing she asked was, “Can I keep the bear? Will it last forever?” Of course!

The bottom tier covered in chocolate fondant was a red velvet cake, filled and topped with cream cheese frosting. The top tier covered in vanilla fondant was a vanilla cake filled and topped with strawberry cream.

Each guest went home with one cupcake of their own packaged in individual cupcake boxes. The cupcakes were red velvet with blue cream cheese frosting, and vanilla cupcakes topped with chocolate ganache. Each cupcake had a baby themed fondant decoration.

Star Wars Party for the Hubster!

Who said Star Wars parties are only for kids!?!?!

Every year I tell my husband I want to make an awesome cake for his birthday, and every year I get stuck with an order and he doesn’t get his cake! This year, I declined all orders to make sure I took the time to make Joel’s cake. I told him I wanted to make him a cake and he said he didn’t want me to bake since I’m always baking. I told him I really wanted to make him a cake and asked him what he wanted.

Joel: Ok fine, re-create the Battle of Hoth from Star Wars

Me: WHAT!? That’s impossible… how do you go from, “don’t make me a cake to the Battle of Hoth!”

Joel: You said you wanted to make me an awesome cake!

At first I was just going to make the cake and invite some of his friends over, but when I went down the part isle at Walmart and I saw a whole section of Star Wars party decoration. Before you know it, I had a whole cart of 3-D plates, cups, tissue paper, table cloths, party favors, and so on. The woman behind be at the cashier said, “Star Wars party for your boy huh! I would do that for my son but he’s already 13.” I laughed and said, “ummm, this is for my husband and he’s turning 27!” I wish I had a camera to take a picture of her face because it was PRICELESS.

The cake was coconut cake, filled and topped with coconut cream cheese frosting.  I topped the cake with coconut shavings to make it look like snow then I landscaped it to look like the scene. I made fondant lego figures of the troopers and eco base. The AT-AT’s were rice krispies cereal treats covered in fondant.I ran out of time so I stuck some Legos on top of the cake to fill in the gaps… I know, I cheated a bit… but the cake looked great!

Joel had no idea I was throwing him a Star Wars party. He thought I was just making the cake and having his friends over for a BBQ.  He was banned from the living room until everything was set up. He even had a Vader pinata! When he entered the room, he had the cheesiest smile on his face and gave me a thumbs up with approval!

New Flavor Cupcakes and a South Park Return!

After making the Reese’s Peanut Butter cake replica, a good friend asked me to make it into cupcakes for his wife’s birthday party! He asked to have “chocolate cake filled with peanut butter frosting, and the pretty chocolate icing,” how cute! I had the pleasure of delivering the cupcakes to the event and spent time with old and new friends.

These bad boys are called Coconut Overload… why you might ask? Well, the cupcake itself was baked with Coconut Milk and mixed with Shredded Coconut. The frosting was Coconut Cream Cheese and topped with MORE Shredded Coconut! It was to die for and passed the taste test so everyone can now start ordering the Coconut Overload along with the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cupcake!

I got an email from someone who had googled South Park Cupcakes and found the cake I’ve made for my husband based on the “Tsst” episode with Cesar Milan. She loved what I’ve done and decided to order a South Park cupcake cake for her boyfriend, who is also an avid fan of the show.  Upon picking up the cupcakes, I asked her where from New York she was from and she said Manhattan. So I wondered why she would come all the way out to North Bergen if she can easily get cupcakes in New York! Well she said that she’d been searching for a good place that would make the South Park cupcakes,  and when she found my site she wanted the same quality as my husband’s cake for a good price. She made the trek out to NJ and said it was well worth the hassle! =D

Welcoming Babies!

Over the year, I’ve had to make cupcakes, cupcake cakes, and 3-D cakes for baby showers.

The Winnie the Pooh and Friends Vanilla and Chocolate cupcake cake was inspired by the mother to be’s baby shower invitiation:

Got Milk? Khloe’s mommie loves chocolate so this baby bottle 3-D cake called for Chocolate cake filled with Strawberry cream and fresh Strawberries.

These Carrot and Chocolate cupcakes were made for Donna’s surprise shower at work and boy was she shocked! She’s never the type to get surprised but we got her good. The mommy to be brought some of these yummy cupcakes to her hubby back home.

A favor to ask! These embossed cupcakes were perfect for guests to take home!

Tribute to Cupcake Wars and Monsterfriends

I don’t know what I was thinking but when I saw a message on my Facebook inbox from Jen about a casting call for Cupcake Wars, I could not let the opportunity pass me by! So I replied to the casting call. CRAAAAZAAAY! On my way home that day, I really didn’t expect to hear back but I got an email from the casting member and he wanted me to fill out an application… a few days later they wanted a video of why I should be on the show! OMG!!!

So by now my mind was racing in overdrive thinking about what I should say, make, and who my partner would be. Who better than Karen my crazy cake lady buddy to help me out. Now what to make! 2010 winter Olympic snowboarders and our guest appearance from Monterfriends, Robotkid ( ).

Joel my hubster was my lifesaver and worked all day and night to direct, film and edit my video with his brother’s creative direction. Meaning, I dressed up like Rocky, got antiqued for “makeup”, did triceps pumps with flour, ran in the snow with confectioner sugar, did my awesome kung fu moves with my whisk and rolling pin… at 9PM when the video was due in about an hour! All worth it!!! because now my video is going to be reviewed by the producers. I’m super excited and can’t sleep at night. Now it’s the waiting game.. 2 weeks til I find out.

Check out the video on youtube:

Obsessed with Sneakers!

Kurt’s birthday was coming up in two days and I wanted to make him cupcakes at first with a bunch of Nike High Tops, but then I figured I’d venture out into trying to make a 3-D replica of his favorite kicks (Dunk High Premium “Crocodile Stars Edition”)! I called his girl to find out which high top it was and got to work. Although it took me over 8 hours to get this done, it was well worth the smile on his face… along with everyone’s jaw dropping! HAHA! I surprise myself sometimes and this was one of those moments… his mom didn’t even let anyone eat it =/
